A New Era For Inclusive Living Opens At Kala Jordan Springs

Kala Jordan Springs is a $65m lakeside development featuring 84 one, two and three-bedroom apartments across two mid-rise buildings.

To address shortfalls in specialist disability accommodation, a quarter of the development includes 10 High Physical Support, 9 Improved Liveability apartments and 2 overnight assistance units.

Coplex, one of Sydney’s leading iCIRT-rated construction companies, is about to celebrate the grand opening of Kala Jordan Springs, a $65 million inclusive living development in Western Sydney. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on 12 November, and guests include Melissa McIntosh MP, Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, and Councillor Todd Carney, Mayor of Penrith.

Nestled beside a serene lake and the expansive Wianamatta Regional National Park, Kala Jordan Springs offers a tranquil retreat. The development comprises 84 spacious one, two and three-bedroom apartments across four levels, two buildings, and two basement levels of car parking.

A groundbreaking aspect of Kala Jordan Springs is its commitment to inclusivity to the local community in Western Sydney. A quarter of the development has been designed to the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) design standard, addressing a critical shortage of such housing in Sydney.

NDIS data[1] shows that more than 36% of NDIS participants in NSW who have or are currently eligible for SDA funding still need to start using the funds, which points to a statewide shortfall for this type of accommodation. To satisfy the shortage in Western Sydney, Coplex incorporated a diverse range of SDA housing in the second stage of the award-winning UDIA Master Planned community developed by Lendlease. Coplex has partnered with Nationwide Care Plus as the SDA provider to manage the development and ensure housing needs are met for the approved participants.

“At Coplex, we believe in helping all within the community to live well. We are incredibly proud to play our part in transforming the quality of life for 19 households and families by delivering NDIS accommodation designed for improved liveability and high physical support,” says Rami Ibrahim, Director of Coplex.

“Unfortunately, it is rare to see developers including this type of specialist accommodation in their plans when building new facilities. The costs to refurbish or add customisations afterwards can be astronomical, which can limit the number of specialist disability accommodation available.”

“Kala is a lakeside luxury development, and despite including customisations to meet the needs of NDIS participants, we have maintained that sense of luxury throughout, delivering all the convenience and high quality of our internal finishes.”

For people with significant physical impairment, the 10 High Physical Support apartments are designed with features including durable hybrid flooring, built-in structures for ceiling hoists, and provisions for automated windows, doors, and blinds. The apartments are also equipped with lift-up benches and drawer pantries in the kitchens, drawer dishwashers, dimmable lighting throughout, pull-down hangers in the wardrobes, heating globes in the bathrooms, and UPS. Two onsite overnight assistance units will support carers needing to stay nearby to assist residents around the clock with their needs.

The 9 Improved Liveability apartments are designed for better physical access and include features for people with sensory, intellectual or cognitive impairments. These include durable hybrid flooring and doors painted in different colours to create a 30% contrast for individuals with visual impairments. These units also include provisions for automated windows, doors, blinds, electric cooktops, drawer dishwashers, and adjustable shelves in the storage/linen cupboard.

Kala Jordan Springs is part of the wider Jordan Springs community, a thriving neighbourhood developed by Lendlease. Once complete, it will be home to 13,000 residents. This vibrant community offers a range of amenities, including parks and open spaces centred around a 3-hectare lake. With a strong focus on sustainability, the development incorporates native Australian plants and is conveniently located near Penrith City Centre, Penrith train station, the M4 and Great Western Highway.

Coplex continues to contribute to the growth of Western Sydney through previous projects such as Geneva Jordan Springs and its upcoming mixed-use Town Centre development located at Jordan Springs. The group also has several new projects in the pipeline that will further meet the shortfall of SDA housing in Greater Sydney.
